From Russia comes this very pretty ammonite, which is the shell of a cuttlefish or inkfish. It is the opalized portions of the shell that account for the beautiful iridescent colors displayed on both sides of this solid piece. It rests on a glittering carved sandstone-like base, with sparkling gold-colored streams of matrix sprinkled over the display. This ammonite is over 200 million years old (Upper Jurassic Period) and was discovered in Volga River, Saratov area, Russia.
