Although usually seen in jewelry (cut into small cabachons), here's your chance to acquire a sizeable chunk of the beautiful stone Larimar, found only in the Dominican Republic. Larimar is a rare blue variety of the silicate mineral Pectolite, this one with light ocean blue coloring, some white veining, and an apparent presence from one end of the matrix rock to the other. A fun bit of history: Discovered in 1916, it wasn't until 1974 that two men, one a Peace Corp volunteer, rediscovered Larimar and introduced it to the public. Natives had always called it Blue Stone. But one of the men combined his daughter's name "Larrisa" with "Mar", the Spanish name for sea, and voila'! Larimar was born!
Many metaphysical properties are attributed to this stone, an interesting one being that it vibrates to the Master Number 55. But no matter where your interest lies, you need only to dream of warm sea breezes, sunny sand beaches and soft Caribbean nights to conjure up magical visions of the stunning stone called Larimar!
